CANCER (June 21-July 22): “A quiet evening alone with friends can be an ecstatic experience for Cancerians,” say Gary Goldschneider and Joost Elffers in their book *The Secret Language of Birthdays.* “Yet many born under this sign have strange aspects to their personalities which must be periodically revealed in public.” I suspect this description will be particularly apt in the coming weeks. You may feel an irresistible urge to express your eccentricities to a bigger audience. My advice is to make definite plans to unveil the most interesting versions of your oddness at times and places of your choosing. That way it won’t unexpectedly pop out half-cocked when it might cause embarrassment.

Being present for Melle‘s UFC deflowering was all that I had hoped for.. and then some. My heart sings..

This morning I woke up feeling a little bit antsy in the “must go out and do something” way. Fresh air seemed to be a requirement, but not a lot of running around in the car.

Since Kelly exposed me to uptown WATERLOO (ahem) a while back, I have been itching to take Coffee on the same exploratory stroll. The weather today was cool (but dry! no rain!) so we wandered up and down King St N. Into this shop, into another one, peeking in windows.. We had a good time – though the only purchase we made was a bit of chai gelato (Coffee) and a bit of caramel crunch gelato (me). (Shiny walls! SHINY!)

Having dyed my hair this morning, I was greatly appreciative of the attention provided to my tresses by the young kids of Waterloo as we made our way up and down the street. I was pointed at, grinned at and whispered to by children and their parents. Many, “She LOVES your hair!” compliments were given and it made me feel very sassy indeed.

Clearly, “flamingo pink” is THE hair colour this season for the pre-school set. Go on, do it to your head too if you’re feeling flamboyant – or just need a break from the grey skies. I guarantee you’ll feel at least 20 years younger…

We returned home and got warmed up a bit by rubbing dog bellies.

Coffee is currently in the kitchen making couscous with spaghetti sauce and soy chicken nuggets. (Mmmmm! A specialty recipe I made up earlier this month! CLASSY!)

Later tonight, Melle, her brother and his girlfriend, Coffee and I are all watching UFC together. I have no idea how Melle got roped into this plan, but I am nonetheless amused that she will be partaking of the evening’s festivities.

All in all, a very good Saturday for one Princess Violet of Hillview.

Hawk On My Head.

As I was typing that previous entry, the meme-y one, a hawk flew into our yard and perched three feet above my head on the side-wall of the solarium.

If I had slightly longer arms (and there wasn’t glass above me) I could totally have poked his belly a few times before he gored me with his hooked beak. He was a very pretty hawk and, I swear to god, I love this house more and more with each passing day.

The End.

Meme.

1. Height?
5′5 and 3/4″

2. Have you ever smoked heroin?
Allow me to answer that with my OWN question. Namely, would I be this pudgy if smoking heroin was a hobby of mine?

3. Do you own a gun?
Weirdly enough, yes. It’s currently in the trunk of my car. I’m all Snoop like that.

Today Is Grey.

.

That’s the view from the solarium today – grey and gloomy. Raining. Cold and muddy. A good day to stay indoors and read a book while snuggled up with a dog or two.

Meme!

(Swiped from Kelly, the Meme Queen!)

1. Have you ever been searched by the cops?
Never. But I don’t have many interactions with the police, really.

2. Do you close your eyes on roller coasters?
Not a chance – don’t you know that it is only my intense concentration that keeps the car from flying off the tracks?! I cannot CLOSE my eyes! Sheeesh!

Yes, Please.

Perhaps it would be a good idea, fantastic as it sounds, to muffle every telephone, stop every motor and halt all activity for an hour some day to give people a chance to ponder for a few minutes on what it is all about, why they are living, and what they really want. -James Truslow Adams

Unspeakably Hot.

This is just.. exceptionally sexy to me.

Taming The Beasts.

When we adopted Daisy from the Humane Society in Hamilton, we were told that she had been returned several times by prospective owners as a result of “too much energy”. We were told to expect a long stay in obedience school and educated on the necessity of crate training. But she was a very good-natured dog, and she seemed quite happy to meet us, and well, we adored her at first sight.

And, indeed, she arrived at our home and bounced off of the walls (quite literally) and ran around doing “puppy burn” for seemingly hours on end. She wasn’t even remotely ‘snuggly’ or interested in having her belly rubbed. It was All Motion! All The Time! She barked for fun and gnawed everything and, well, she was a puppy. Even in her crate there were very loud protests and shrieks and attempts to gnaw her way through the bars.

Several years have passed and Daisy is the sweetest and mellow-est dog in the world. When I am sitting still for lengthy periods of time (say, using my laptop) she will be snuggled up beside my feet, gently licking my toes. If I sit out in the solarium she will sit as close to me as possible on the futon (the only furniture the dogs are permitted ‘up’ on) and sloooooooooowly lean her head down until it’s resting on my chest. I am forced to rest my chin on her forehead and make smoochy noises. Forced! She will spend hours and hours licking my feet when given the chance – it’s a win-win situation for all those involved!

Although Daisy isn’t the smartest of beasts, and I say that with much love, she is exceptionally sweet. She follows me around, stares at me with her big brown eyes, and while she’s not perfectly trained she’s very well-intentioned. (She passed grade one of obedience school due to the kindness of the instructor, not due to her skill..) She rarely needs to be crated for any reason and can absolutely be trusted not to destroy the house if left alone for a few hours.

This is not meant to portray her as an angel.
