Change of Plans.

After cold-sweating my way through another coat of paint in the office, I sat down to drink some tangerine Fanta and blow my nose a few hundred times. Snorting and sniffing and wheezing. So! Pretty!

And then, being the kind, sweet, always-thinking-of-others sort of person that I am (stop snickering!) I called our social worker to let her know that I’ve been nursing a cold for a few days.

I was careful to note that I’m feeling perfectly well enough to do the homestudy tomorrow but that I can’t guarantee she wouldn’t catch it and that I wanted her to have the option to reschedule.

Not surprisingly, she was thrilled that I had let her have the option to not catch the plague. She’s one of those “avoid sick people at all costs” sorts and often ends up visiting people – and children – who are sneezing and wheezing all over the place and who didn’t want to call and reschedule. Then SHE ends up sick and miserable.

See? Sometimes I can be a really nice person.

Alright, the truth? I just don’t want to be known as “the woman who wants kids but didn’t have the sense in her head to avoid passing the plague on to her social worker”. That doesn’t seem like the comment I want scribbled in the middle of our homestudy documentation. It doesn’t really scream “cares for other people” does it?

At any rate, this means I can spend the rest of today lying around, blowing my nose and waiting for Coffee to come home for dinner.

And we can spend the weekend finishing up our projects without a major rush.

And tonight we can go to bed before midnight!

The new date is Tuesday – not far away at all – and I can handle that.

But that canceling bit? I’m sure it got you big brownie points with your social worker! Now her first impression of you is good, and she hasn’t even met you yet!
