Within a few seconds of looking at this image, the woman begins to spin counter-clockwise. A few seconds later, she spins clockwise again.
Sometimes she spins in one direction for a loooong time and then, BAM! she spins the other way. If I relax and watch the image, she spins randomly in either direction for varied lengths of time.
I can control the direction in which she spins – by focusing on the text to the left of the image, reading the words inside my head, she begins to spin in the other direction immediately.
I glance back at her, then go back to reading the words, and she immediately spins in the other direction again. I can do this over and over.
I first stumbled across the image (and explanation) on someone’s blog. They hadn’t linked to the article – just pasted the image and the info. When I saw her start spinning in random directions, I decided that it was a hoax. Someone had created an animated .gif and, of course, the girl would spin in the other direction eventually.
I found the original article and I figured the Herald Sun was playing a trick on readers.
But then Coffee came home. He informed me that he could not see her spinning in the other direction. At all. Ever. No matter what he did.
And he had dissected the image and determined that it was not a hoax.
On WNET, no one else sees her spinning all willy-nilly.
My brain SCARES ME sometimes. Do any of YOU see her spinning in both directions randomly? Please join me in being a freak.

Nope…only if I look at it in my very extreme peripheral vision do I see her going countclockwise. If I look at her directly, she is spiining clockwise, always. This might be like those stupid pictures where some people see beautiful medows and rainbows and all sorts of crap and all I can see is blotches and spots. I HATE those damned things.

Don’t worry, you’re not a freak…..
….. You’re our special girl. Sorry, couldn’t help myself. :-)
I can never, ever, ever see those “stupid pictures where some people see beautiful medows and rainbows and all sorts of crap and all I can see is blotches and spots. I HATE those damned things.”
On the other hand, the spinning lady only turns in one direction for me, clockwise.
The thing that I find really strange is that the various personality tests/sorters I’ve taken all say that my personality has most (but not all) of the characteristics assigned to people who see the image going counter clockwise.
Somebody is lying to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Or maybe I just have a crappy monitor.
Or maybe, I’m a freak!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-)

I can make it flip directions – just stare at the tip of the foot that’s pointed out, and imagine it going in one direction or the other – it takes me a couple seconds to change the apparent direction.
-
it’s both! it really is!
I even opened the damned thing in Image Ready and went through frame by frame — repeatedly — and it changed.
*takes a seat next to you on the freaky express*

Very little concentration and she switched back and forth from one direction to the other. Silly, spinning girl. I bet I made her dizzy.
-
Initially clockwise. After a little practice I can change direction pretty much at will. What would be really cool is to try to get both rotations at the same time.
-
I thought that she was doing backflips.
-
Just hit refresh a few times and she will change directions.
