Now that pretty much every staff member at Home Depot is eligible for my Christmas card list, we seem to be nearing the final stretch in our renovations.
(But now I’m reminded that I need to sort out our Christmas card list, soon, and make sure we have all the current addresses.. Eeep!)
The upstairs bathroom is finished, save for the installation of a towel rack (which is currently on the floor) and the touching-up of the baseboard paint. It looks fantastic and I get kind of giddy every morning when I open the door and see the lilac walls shining back at me. It kind of, um, GLOWS in there under the skylight.
The office, downstairs, has a new floor and the walls are fully painted. We had a pretty good time with the flooring installation, actually. Since it’s a basement room, and we couldn’t determine whether there was any recent water leakage in the foundation, we decided not to put in anything fancy. Instead, we bought interlocking grid tiles that are actually meant for use in a garage.
No, really.
They’re interlocking tiles that have drainage holes and are strong enough to support the weight of a car. And they look really quite spiffy in our bright orange room. Brilliant choice, if I may say so myself. If I can find a link to them, somewhere, I’ll post it later.
Today we’re building our custom designed desk (um, custom designed by US!) and putting in the baseboards. The desk will be made from a kitchen counter and some assorted wood and some shelving and, okay, maybe I should just wait for it to be finished and then post a picture.
After the desk is built, we’ll move some of the other furniture items in (the towers for storage, for example) and hook up all 400 computers and peripherals – a slight exaggeration but not by much. The last task will be to find an area rug that looks nice with brilliant orange walls, but that can wait for a while.
On Monday my job will be to organize all of the crap in these rooms while Coffee returns to work and sighs with relief that he’s not required to precision-cut anything at the office.
It probably goes without saying that I’m feeling much, much, MUCH better. My energy is more consistent and I’m no longer out of breath while doing simple things like, say, eating. This pleases me. I’m sure it will also please the social worker on Tuesday morning.
Now, I have to go and find myself something to eat (bagel, anyone?) and then we can get this party staaaaaarted!

I’d like that link to the tiles. They sound very awesome. And I hope that someday K and I will get up there to see you guys and your awesome paint!
