Like A Pack of Wild Dogs.

Tomorrow, much to my horror and dismay, Coffee returns to work.

Granted, he only works 2 days this week – Monday and Wednesday – but I am rather terrified at the idea of being alone with.. the hooligans.

It’s not that they have terrible behaviour or that I’m anticipating any more chaos than we normally have.. it’s that I rather enjoy the support of having another adult in the house. He can snuggle a crying one whilst I chase another. He can watch one destroy something while I watch another destroy something else.

Have I mentioned that he’s a really good dad? He is. Totally.

There are moments when the three kids are running around like a hurricane when I’m sure my eyes look like a deer in headlights. And that’s when Coffee swoops in.

There are moments when I require some quiet time in my room – just to breathe – and Coffee is there.

And when I need a hug that doesn’t end in someone squeezing me and shouting, “TICKLE!”.. well, there’s Coffee!

Plus? Coffee has never sat on my lap for a ‘hug’, farted, and run away laughing.

So, it’s not that I’m expecting to be attacked by lunatics tomorrow. It’s just that I’m not 100% confident in my ability to “single parent”..

How many days until school starts??

Just recently I got to babysit for my three year old grandchildren all day into the night ALONE, not parents dropping by after work, no helper grandpa, just me from early, early a.m. till bedtime for them and till parents got home REAlly LATE.

I had babysat with someone else, for shorter times, many many times but this was to be my very first all day/night long just me doing everything by myself and being there fully responsible adult for whatever was to happen.

    And guess what?

It went smoothly, fine, easy, I learned I could do it…I could single grandparent! And it was great fun too.
I even had to use my firm voice once or twice.
And they responded well to that.
They did not run away or scream or say “you are not the boss of me.”
They are twins, boy/girl, just turned three.
    And I DID IT.

    SO WILL YOU!

And I bet you love it too.

Yeah, I would probably do it to Kelly if I could. I settle for flapping the covers from time to time. (Oh the things I divulge on your blog Violet!)

I still remember when Fraser left me with 3 kids alone for a whole day.

It was so overwhelming – but I did it.

Lower your expectations…or better yet, toss them out the door.

    Have a great time!

Let us all know how it goes – we are all out here in cyberspace wondering how you are holding up
