Middle One: I can’t believe you took Little One to school IN HIS PYJAMAS!
Me: Why not?
Middle One: They’re.. PYJAMAS!
Me: He had a good long time in which to decide to get dressed. He knows how. His clothes were set out. He didn’t want to wear clothes. Did you expect us to hold him down and put him into clothes? Yell and scream at him?
Middle One: Well.. no… but… I can’t believe you took him to school in his PYJAMAS!
Me: We made sure he had all the things he needed in his bag so he could change into clothes whenever he wanted. We told him that we had no problems taking him to school in his pyjamas if he didn’t change at home. And we weren’t going to let him be late for school.
Middle One: But..
Me: Dad and I will only ‘force’ you to do things that are for your own safety and health. Wearing pyjamas to school isn’t unsafe. It’s goofy and silly, but it’s not unsafe.
Middle One: I’d be embarrassed to go to school in my PYJAMAS.
Me: Especially since you sleep in boxer shorts, huh? Better make sure you get dressed every day, then.
Middle One: YEAH! YOU GUYS ARE CRAZY!

Oh, this is so cool. I’m so writing this one down, and I can’t wait for the moment *I* will get to say that!
I have four kids and the oldest one is 12, yet I’m learning something new from you almost everyday. I’m serious. You have a way in dealing with the kids that I would have never thought of (like the gloves incident or this one).
Violet, you (and Coffee) are the best. You feel ‘best’ is probably too much? How about ‘funniest’ ? :-p

I can just picture MO saying that to you. You guys are crazy!

I’ve enjoyed reading the pyjamas stories. To often parents shield children for more than their health and safety, and then we don’t end up growing up and learning things about life much later than we should have. If I ever get me some children (I’m only 25 now), I’ll have to try and remember that. Thanks!
