I’ll Just Say It.

I want Obama to be the next president of the United States of America.

Do you think it’ll happen? I mean, really? Because THAT would be SO COOL.

(This is as in-depth and “serious” as I will ever get about politics, I suspect..)

I could be REALLY serious and go on for hours, particularly because I live right next to the US and I am looking at Detroit as I type this from my office window, but I won’t.
I’ll just say, “YES ME TOO”, and “It would be way groovy!”

    Meh.

The only cool thing about him is that he’s going to be the first black president of the United States.

IMO Obama’s the lesser of three evils. I consider Bob Barr to be a flip-flopping career politician who just happened to find a job with the Libertarian party. I’ve voted Libertarian in the past because the candidates were ideologically committed. Not so, this presidential election.

Otherwise, for the things that I most value in a government it’s all “situation normal” regardless of who gets elected.

Do people still honestly believe the President runs things? Dude does about as much as HRH the Queen Liz these days. The only importance of Obama winning is the Dems in Congress knowing that no-one will veto any of their sillier ideas.

Chz, to be brief no, and I think most of us know that. It’s not just about that.
Don’t you think it’s about time the US has a true LEADER?
Someone the country can look up to and perhaps even be inspired by, rather than one who embarrasses them every single time he opens his mouth?
The country is falling apart. The economy is in the toilet. People need someone they can get behind.
And before you tell me I’m a dreamer let me say that no, I don’t believe he’s the answer to all problems. I just think he’s a heck of a good start.

    Sylvian
I’ll be God damned if I hold any career politician in high enough esteem to follow as a leader. The only Americans who have to do that are the ones who voluntarily joined the military and refer to the Commander in Chief as “Sir.”

Frankly, I don’t need or want a leader. I think any civilian who gives one iota more than the proper respect due the office of President is a fool. Look: Don’t give German Chancellors unsolicited back rubs. Don’t order soldiers to break the Geneva Convention. Don’t start wars for specious reasons. Stay the hell away from my life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. Do these things and I’ll be satisfied with your work as President Of The United States.

Fat, dumb and happy is going out of style. “Land of The Free, Home of the Brave” is long gone never to return. Democracy means voting for whichever corporate sponsored candidate one thinks is less evil.

However, the country isn’t falling apart. No one has declared martial law. I can still post political comments on foreign people’s blogs (Hi Vaelet!) with a reasonable assurance that the Department Of Homeland Security isn’t going to be kicking down my door at 5AM. There aren’t soldiers with automatic weapons mowing down mobs of starving rioters. All the terrorism I’ve read about on American soil since 9/11 has been home-grown whackjobs, religious fundamentalists and Republican fear-mongers. Money’s tight but we’re good at being poor if it comes to that.

So, all in all, in my opinion it’s just SSDD.

    It’s Sylvain, not Sylvian.

And I’m not going to argue, it’s your country. See it how you want to see it.

Damn. Sorry about that. That’ll teach me to use cut+paste.

I’m easy. Not looking to start an argument or be argued with just stating my opinion.
