Grace In Small Things – 64/365

  1. Cramming Coffee’s lunch bag with candy and pop this morning made me laugh and laugh and laugh and laugh. I don’t know why it was so funny, but really, IT WAS.
  2. Maymo’s cold is improving and he’s feeling much healthier. Less green snot-bubbles all around!
  3. Sunshine. I am still exceedingly pleased by the sunshine lately.
  4. Maymo was in a big “let me help!” mode yesterday and it was fun(ny) to be a part of that.
  5. Having “parent” code words that Coffee and I can mutter to each other to describe the kids’ behaviours without tipping the kid off. (“GEODE!”)

Oh my gosh! The hubby and I use code words when talking about the cats and vet visits!

I have to know…. what does Geode refer to?

DH and I refer to our dogs as “little one” and “tubby” when we’re trying to point out how cute they’re being cause the second you say their name they move or at the very least look at you.

There’s an episode of The Simpsons in which Martin Prince (the chubby, brainy kid) gets agitated because people aren’t paying attention to his geode presentation and, instead, are focused on Bart’s dog who’s in the classroom dancing around and doing dog-things. In utter frustration Martin squeaks out, “My geode must be acknowledged!!”

We use the term “geode” whenever one of the kids is insisting on immediate parental attention in an increasingly agitated manner. Like if we’re in the middle of trying to fix one kid’s problems and another is dancing around shouting, “Look at my socks! I have nice socks, don’t I? Do you like socks? I LIKE SOCKS!” out of jealousy that we’re paying attention to the first kid.

I believe it’s a pretty common sibling thing, but “GEODE!” sums it up nicely. :)
