Alpha.

On Thursday, in my groups class, I was referred to as being “very alpha”. I was then very hastily informed that it was “a good thing, not a bad thing! honest!”

I cannot fathom the idea of me as “alpha”. At all. This amuses the shit out of me.

*snorts* I’m usually considered an A-type person in social situations. Who’d know I go home to kneel at my husbands feet?

The thing that amuses the shit out of me, btw, is that the random picture of me that I’ve got here… sorta looks like me. Make the hair red and supercurly in every-which-way, and… Well, that’d be me.

Of course, she’s 2.48 AM, so I’m so easily amused it’s not even funneh.

Umm, yeah, you’re pretty alpha. Nothing wrong with that. People tend to have a very binary paradigm when it comes to pecking order in social situations. There’s the alpha(s) and then there’s everyone else.

The thing is that I.. just don’t see it. I don’t *feel* alpha, at all, ever. I think I’m bossy and rather narcissistic and a control freak (ha!) .. but at the same time, in my interactions with other people, particularly those I don’t know very well, I generally feel less certain and less confident.

What does alpha feel like? I think alpha is more about how others see you than it is about how you see yourself.

I agree, definitely. I also find it hard to believe that people don’t see my discomfort or unease or what-have-you spelled out on my face!
