We're going to be trying an experiment this spring to make jerky out of a well marbled pot roast. Nummy.

I keep moving my trays too. Maybe I just have a cheapy dehydrator. It could be, I've had it for ages.

Michelle - our dehydrator didn't dry evenly; we had trays that would need to be rearranged about halfway through the drying time (bottom trays moved to the top and vice versa) and then things came out OK. We did apples mostly, but also some herbs and jerky (not at the same time - though drying basil with jerky might be good!).

We've only made the one batch of apple rings - and they turned out perfectly. Today we're doing pineapple rings (so, very wet) and we'll see how they turn out. I'll let you know what our overall opinion is!

Let me know if it dries evenly. I've got a dehydrator that I use occasionally, but I find it never dries things evenly. I'd love to be drying more fruits in the summer.

I made two plywood and window screen 7-shelf dehydrators years back that worked great. Set over a heat vent with furnace fan running and light bulb under the bottom shelf for heat. I didn't have a power screw driver in those days and assembling the racks gave me "screwer's elbow" though the doctor said they prefer to call it tennis elbow.

definitely get some black cherries and try those. Banana chips are great too, but you have to dip them in lemon juice - or they go black. Mine also makes great beef jerky, but i have the deluxe version.
