Bunnies!

This morning I went out to see the baby bunnies and discovered that several of them have opened their eyes. By all accounts, this means they’re almost ready to leave the nest and head out into the big world – presumably to make more bunnies.

I’ve been seeing a lot of Mama Bun (OneBun) around the yard lately, just sitting, and she’s been perfectly fine with me being near the babies. She’s also been fine with me talking to her while she fills up on seeds from under the bird feeder and, in general, seems content to have me around. I suspect she’s familiar with my scent and my voice; we think she may be one of the offspring from last year’s nest.

I uploaded these pictures to Facebook, already, but figured I’d share them here for those who aren’t hooked up with me on FB (yet?).

From across the yard, it looks like we've been neglecting our edging.

A little closer and we can see some grey fluff and dried grass - a nest!

The bunnies are now big enough that they barely fit into the nest; the fur and grass barely covers them.

Baby bunnies do not particularly like to be awakened for photos. BUT HOW CAN I RESIST?

For perspective, I included my finger in this photo. There are 7 babies in this nest - crammed in. TINY!
