Make Yourself Useful, For Pete’s Sake.

Sooooooooo.. anyone want to help me build a web site? One of those good ol’ fashioned blog things that will, say, have photos on it that people can comment/rank and to which other people can submit photos for commenting/ranking?

And anyone want to give me some advice on HOW to monetize the shit out of it, given that y’all seem to think I need to monetize the shit out of it?

    OK, here’s my random guess (as I’ve never done it before myself) as to how to monetize WetSpotBlots.ca.

    At first, keep it really simple, and just put Google Ads up on it. Steal a page (or seven) from the Can I Has Cheezburger network and model it right off of that using off-the-shelf blogger software. Get eyeballs coming, and build a name for the site.

    Next, offer a paid membership to get rid of ads. Lord knows you can stick a LOT of ads on a webpage, and a small yearly membership fee might be worthwhile to some.

    Once that’s established, you can offer a premium membership that offer member-only content. If you’re content to allow the perverted masses to control the content, you can even give them access to the entire submission stream and let THEM vote for which blots get put up on the main (free-to-all, ad-riddled) part of the site. Yes, let the paying customers make the public face of the site better.

    Assuming you get this far, you’ll have a steady revenue stream, and can go hunting for someone to buy the site out, if nobody has already offered repeatedly at this point.

    Of course, to maintain the brand you should develop sister sites as well (UsedRaincoats.com, MaxiBlots.com, BacneConstellations.com, Skidz.com sponsored by Oxyclean, etc., etc.) to really develop a sort of NSFW Lolcats-like empire.

    I’ll bet you get bought out before long. Especially if you go asking.
