Avoidance.

I was recently talking to someone who had lost their parent – a few years ago – and the discussion turned around to how to deal with that. The person noted that they had simply made their own family of friends.

I, laughing, said, “Really? Because I have found it easier to simply keep people an arm’s distance away, avoiding attachments, and viewing friendships somewhat longingly but with a good scoop of distrust.”

Knowing yourself is important.
